Woodham & Philpott Champions!
5th March 2010
Congratulations go out to the first ever Slade Farm United Badminton Championship winners Dean Woodham and Chris Philpott. In a top court champion format, it was a twist of destiny that Woody & Philly were drawn out on the top court to start with, the unfortunate opponents being Ben Abba and Barrett who could do nothing to stop the onslaught of shuttlecocks both whizzing past, and hitting themselves. Game after game was won by the majestic duo, beating such valiant opponents as KP & KP, who came back for beating after beating. The closest they came to being toppled was the muscularly bound pairing of Sweeney and Twig who sadly ran out of steam in the dying minutes to retreat back down the court. On the end of the scale, Dimples and Mercer seemed to enjoy resting every other game after consistently doing their best to lose their games. Other notable performances included first team gaffer Adam Barker, who managed to drag teen star Steven Gardner down to his poor level of performance. Special mention goes to Phil Christie, who not only managed to screw up the tournament that he 'organised' last season, also nearly screwed this one up by pulling his team out of the tournament on Sunday morning. Thanks again to everybody who played and had a good time, Woodham and Philpott welcome future challenges to the championship and the next tournament is surely not far away.
